Three persons were arrested including Jinn-exorcist Riazuddin Fakir,48, his wife Taslima Aktar Lucky, 42, and their son Tawhidur Rahman, 18, by Unit-8 of RAB-8 on Tuesday noon from Ruapatali area of the city for killng a man in the name of treatment on Saturday at Awaliapur under Bakerganj upazila.
The arrestees in interrogation acknowledged their role and involvement with the killing and later handed over to Bakerganj police station, said Abul Kalam police station in charge.
Mentionable Abul Kalam Mridha, 48, reportedly psychologically-ill, was killed allegedly being beaten and drowned for 101-times in the pond in the name of jinn-exorcism at Awliapur in Bakerganj of Barishal on Saturday.
Anwar Sayeed, circle inspector of Bakerganj police, said Kalam of Badarpur in Patuakhali was reportedly behaving strange lately, so he was thought to be under the influence of jinn and was brought to Riaz at Awliapur on Friday.
‘Riaz and his associates forcibly drowned Kalam at 10:00am and 4:00pm in the pond for 101-times and beat him with sticks to exorcise him from jinn.
Beaten and drowned in cold water, Kalam had fallen severely sick and died at night and in the following morning, Ritz’s neighbours had found Kalam’s body at the garden and informed police, said Anwar.
On information, police sent the body of the 48-year-old victim, to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy and Parveen Begum, wife of the victim as complainant lodged a case with Bakerganj police station on Saturday.
