UNB, Dhaka :Terming Jatiya Party a ‘fake’ opposition in 10th parliament, BNP on Tuesday said it is gradually becoming a big burden for the government.”There’s no genuine opposition party in the 10th parliament as a fake opposition exists there. We don’t think it will be a wise decision for the regime to try to complete the five year tenure of this parliament with a fake opposition,” said BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon.Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he said, “The current so-called opposition will never get recognition either at home or abroad. This party has now plunged into an identity crisis and it’s gradually turning into a big burden for the government.” Ripon observed that the creation of a fake opposition will remain as a bad instance in the country’s parliamentary politics. The BNP leader also said the rule of law and accountability is now absent in the country and the ruling party men are getting desperate only for lack of a strong opposition party in the parliament.Under the circumstances, he said the ruling party’s ‘Frankensteins’ are becoming powerful alongside emergence of MPs like Liton and Abdur Rahman Bodi. “It’s an ominous sign for society and politics.”Ripon urged the government to dissolve the current parliament and hold a national election to overcome the current political crisis and restore people’s voting rights.Claiming that their party BNP is the legal and real opposition party in the country, he also called upon the government to engage in talks with them for the sake of democracy and its continuation in the country. The BNP spokesman also hailed Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for what he termed unearthing the ‘frustrating’ scenarios of the current parliament demanding for holding an inclusive and credible election.Speaking at a press conference, TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman on Sunday emphasised holding an inclusive and credible election to make parliament effective as the last parliamentary election was a “controversial one”.
