The district administration and the detective police have seized fake cosmetic products worth Tk 5 lakh during separate drives in Rangpur metropolis.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DB & Media) Uttam Prasad Pathak confirmed the matter in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the press release, anti-adulteration operations were conducted in Shalban Mistripara and Keranipara staff quarters of the city.
A large quantity of counterfeit cosmetics was recovered from a rented house. Mehedi Hasan, son of Faizar Rahman of Bairatihat village in Rangpur’s Mithapukur upazila, was fined Tk 20,000 by the executive magistrate of Rangpur district administration and Tanuka Bhowmik for producing and marketing counterfeit cosmetics. Fake Johnson cosmetics including self-labeled baby soap, baby oil, baby powder, baby lotion, olive oil, baby shampoo and Clean & Clear were recovered during the operation. Also various levels of stickers including fake virgin and dabur amla oil, fake vit, vit hair remover, fake shisha oil were seized. The estimated market price of these cosmetics is Tk 5 lakh.
Later, the fake goods were destroyed.
