Chattogram Customs House (CCH) officials seized 27 tons of fabrics worth Tk 3.36 crore at Chittagong port on Monday.
Nuruddin Milon, Deputy Commissioner of CCH, confirmed the news.
He said one Sufi Apparels Ltd located in Pahartoli imported the consignment of printed fabrics of Raymond brand which is not entitled to be imported under bond facility.
Acting on a tip off, a team of CCH officials inspected the consignment physically and intercepted delivery of the consignment and filed a case against the importer, he added.
Milon also confirmed that the company imported the materials with an ill motive to sell those in the open market instead of manufacturing finished goods for export.
The importer enjoyed zero percent tax facility; however, he would have to pay 89 percent duty worth Tk 1.60 crore if it was not brought under bond facility, Milon added.
