Chess Olympiad: Bangladesh men’s team beat South Korea 4-0 in 8th round

Bangladesh men’s chess team beat South Korea by straight 4-0 points on the 8th round match of the open section in the 42nd Chess Olympiad held in Baku, Azerbaijan on Saturday.
Bangladesh women’s team lost to Austria by 1.5-2.5 points on the 8th round.
Bangladesh men’s team earned nine match points and 20 game points while Bangladesh women’s team earned eight match points and 17.5 game points after their respective matches.
In the open section of the 8th round, GM Abdullah Al Rakib (Rating-2488) beat FM Lee Jun Hyeok (Rating-2238), GM Ziaur Rahman (Rating-2512) beat CM Kim Inguh (Rating-1918), IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin (Rating-2413) beat Chon Yongjoon (Rating-2025) and GM Niaz Murshed (Rating-2439) beat Kwon Sehyun (Rating-2111).
In the women’s section, WFM Zakia Sultana of Bangladesh (Rating-1883) beat WFM Hapala Elisabeth (Rating-2021) while WIM Rani Hamid (Rating-1993) played to a draw against WFM Schnegg Anna-Lena (Rating-2133).
Two other Bangladeshi players –WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin (Rating-2002) lost to WGM Theissl Pokorna Regina (Rating-2331) and WFM Nazrana Khan Eva (1965) lost to WFM Exler Veronika (Rating-2220).
