An extensive plan has been taken to cultivate T-Aman paddy in all the seven upazilas of the food surplus district successfully during the current season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said, a total of 84,471 hectares of land would be brought under T-Aman paddy cultivation this year with the production target of 2,22,767 tonnes of rice.
Of the total land, some 76,560 hectares of land would be cultivated HYV (high yield variety) with an output target of 20,809 tonnes of rice, 899 hectares hybrid with the target of 2,967 tonnes and 7,012 hectares LV (local variety) with the target of 2,967 tonnes, the sources said.
The upazila wise breakup of the land to be cultivated is : 13,100 hectares of land in Sadar upazila, 10,100 in Sadullapur upazila, 8,800 in Palashbari upazila, 20,400 in Gobindaganj upazila, 18,400 in Sundarganj upazila, 9,400 in Saghata upazila and 4,271 in Fulchhari upazila.
Meanwhile, to bring the land under the farming of T-Aman paddy the farmers of the district have already prepared seedbed of 7,089 hectares of land where the seedlings have grown well.
Earlier, to make the farming programme a success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation and its approved dealers distributed high quality Aman seed to the farmers of the district at fair price.
Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank have taken initiatives to disburse agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them cultivate the T-Aman paddy on their land without economical hardship, said a bank official.
In addition, DAE has been conducting training for the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management, judicious use of fertilizer and preservation of quality seed, said Shawkat Osman, additional deputy director (crop) of DAE.
To ensure the production of T-Aman paddy in the district this year, BMDA has also kept its electricity run 365 deep tube wells fully ready to supply irrigation water to the Aman paddy field, if necessary, said executive engineer Qudrat-e-Elahi.
Talking to BSS deputy director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin said necessary
measures had been taken for availability of fertilizers, insecticides and other agri inputs at the grass root level of the district during the current Aman season.
