Expo aims to boost China-South Asia cooperation

The 3rd China-South Asia Expo (CSA) and the 23rd Kunming Import and Export Fair will be kicked off on Friday for promoting regional trade, business and investment and boosting cooperation between China and South Asian countries.
The five-day Expo and Fair will be held from June 12 to 16 June at the Dianchi Convention and Exhibition Center in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan province. This year’s the event aims to enhance the comprehensive China-South Asia cooperation and development, boost the construction of the One Belt, One Road Initiative (OBOR), a development strategy and framework of China that focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries through the land-based “Silk Road Economic Belt” (SREB) and oceangoing “Maritime Silk Road” (MSR).
“I am confident the Expo will prove to be a most effective tool for stimulating commodity trading, trade in services as well as investment and tourism cooperation, and cultural exchanges between China and our countries in South Asia”, said Dr Gowher Rizi, International Affairs Adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
While talking about his expectation from the CSA Expo to the Expo organizer, he also said that the Expo would help all the countries involved both to share benefits and foster harmonious development.
Around 75 countries or regions in the world have confirmed to participate in the 3rd China-South Asia Expo, according to the latest information of the Yunnan International Expo Bureau. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal are participating from South Asia region. A total of 13 exhibition pavilions have been be set up at Kunming Expo venue, which is a newly-built building mainly designed for holding China-South Asia expo.
There will be booths 6,150 this year, double than that of last year. Some 500 companies will exhibit in the expo. Some important conferences like Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar Business Council Work Conference, Bangladesh Human Resources Cooperation Meeting, and Female Entrepreneur Roundtable Meeting will be held in Kunming during the Expo.
A business delegation for Bangladesh already left Dhaka to join the CSA Expo and the 10th China-South Asia Business Forum, to be held on the sideline of the EXPO.
The delegation includes International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICCB) president Mahbubur Rahman, vice president Rokia A. Rahman and former Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) president Asif Ibrahim. Mahbubur Rahman will deliver a speech on Friday 12 on “Promote the Construction of Silk Road Economic Belt: accelerate the pace of business cooperation. Rokia A. Rahman will attend a Round Table Meeting of Women Entrepreneurs between China and South Asia while Asif Ibrahim will speak at the seminar on “Relocation of Chinese Labor Intensive and High Tech Industries to Bangladesh”.
Besides the major events of the Expo, there will be some attractive display including a lunar exploration programme, an unmanned aerial vehicle and some small innovation-oriented enterprises referring to technology, agriculture, or ethnic culture to be exhibited. Introduced in 2013, the CSA Expo is a flagship annual event of the Yunnan province.
