Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam B.Sc on Tuesday said a mechanism to send workers to Malaysia has not been finalized yet, as discussions are in the primary stage.
He requested people interested to go to Malaysia to stay away from advanced financial dealings with anyone before the final decision has been made.
The Minister said these after a meeting with a Malaysian technical delegation led by deputy secretary general of Malaysian Home Ministry Wahab Bin Mohammad Yasin at the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry in the city.
The Minister said, Malaysia needs workers in agricultural farm, house keeping and the service sector, for which the Ministry has started training programmes in 71 training institutes for the interested workers.
Malaysia requires 15 lakh workers over the next three years, though it’s not yet final how many workers they will accept from Bangladesh, he added. Nurul Islam said the minimum wage for the workers will be 900 Malaysian Ringgit; however, migration cost has not been fixed as yet.
Workers outside the government database will also get chance to apply for Malaysia, he also informed. Responding to a question about how he would control the activities of both Bangladeshi and Malaysian middlemen, he said, “Nobody can buy me”.
Besides B2B (Business to Business) process, workers will also go under G2G (Government to Government) process while Bangladeshi recruiting agencies would be allowed to engage in the B2B process.
The Malaysian delegation also includes Malaysian Home Ministry under secretary Shahril bin Ismail, Foreign Workers’ Division Under-secretary Mohammad Zamir bin Mat Zain and Foreign Ministry Under-secretary Zulkifli Yaacob. Bangladeshi High Commissioner in Malaysia Shahidul Islam also attended the meeting.
