Expansion of education to control birth rate stressed

Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique emphasized on expansion of education to ensure success of family planning programmes and build a healthy nation.
“Proper education can play a vital role in controlling birth rate in the country,” a DU press release issued on Tuesday quoted Siddique as he saying at a seminar on DU campus as the chief guest.
DU Population Sciences Department in association with UNFP organized the seminar on “Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations” held on Tuesday at Nawab Nabab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.
DU Population Sciences Department Chairman Dr. Aminul Haque presided over the seminar. Social Sciences Faculty acting Dean Professor AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan addressed it as the special guest while founder chairman of the department A K M Nur-un-Nabi was the guest of honour.
The DU Vice-Chancellor underscored the need for including the demerits of child marriage in the textbooks from primary level of the education for creating mass awareness.
