Execution of observation of HC to stop sexual assaults on women, children demanded

Participants at a human chain and rally on Tuesday protested sexual assaults against women and children and called to implement observations of High Court (HC)for speedy trial and exemplary punishment.
The programme jointly organised in front of Barishal Ashwini Kumar Hall by Nari Pakkho and Barishal Mohila Kalyan Sangstha, was presided over by Kohinur Begum, councilor of Barishal City Corporation.
Among others, Protima Sarkar, joint secretary district unit of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, Sohanur Rahman, Hasina Begum Nila, Kawsar Parvin, Zahidul Islam, Istiaq Ahmed Rabbi, women and children rights activists.
The speakers and participants quoting statistics from different newspapers said in last six months at least 630 women was violated and among them 153 were victims of mass-rape.
Besides 37 were murdered and 7 victims committed suicides after rape in the country during this period. Rape was attempted against 105 women and one them committed suicide and another one murdered. Eight out of 127 women victimized of stalking committed suicide and 3 women and 2 men killed for protesting such crimes, they said.
The speakers opined that violence against women and children was not a new phenomenon. But recently it turned to be an epidemic against women and children of all rage of ages at every spheres of the society including law enforcers due to failure of the state and its organs.
For preventing this epidemic, implementing observations of High Court about creating social consciousness, speedy trial and exemplary punishment and proper execution of all acts and laws related with this type of crimes removing loopholes, were stressed by the participants of the programme.
