Tampaco probe report: Excessive use of gas caused fire

Titas Gas investigators found evidence of excessive use of gas at Gazipur Tampaco Foils Ltd site where around three dozens of people were killed so far in a devastating fire on September 10.
The investigators reported that no explosions took place due to any problem in the gas line, adding that the gas supply to the line was suspended within 10 minutes of the incident.
After examining everything in this regard, no problems were found in the gas line of Titas Gas, a source with the investigation committee told media.
Evidence has been found that the factory used gas twice to the amount of the approved limit, it said.
Investigators visited the collapsed factory site with the help of Army and took photographs of different spots, related sources said.
The probe report also said that the owner of the factory installed booster illegally to increase gas pressure. The probe body also recommended for legal action against the factory owner
for such illegal activity. Meanwhile, a decomposed body was recovered from the fire-ravaged factory, raising the death toll to 36. Rescuers found the body, whose identity could not be known, under the debris of the factory around 2:30pm, said, Firoz Talukder, Officer-in-Charge of Tongi Police Station.
After the fire incident, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited formed an investigation committee. Titas’ General Manager (marketing) Dhaka North, Rana Kabir, who headed the investigation committee said that they had submitted their findings on Thursday.
A massive fire erupted at the food and cigarette packaging factory of Tampaco Foils Limited after a loud explosion. Initially it was reported that a boiler explosion had triggered the fire but government officials were quick to shoot down the claim.
So far 35 people have been killed in the incident which is Bangladesh’s worst industrial disaster since the 2013 Rana Plaza collapse
Twenty-four people were killed on the spot and more than 70 injured as the factory collapsed following a big explosion and fire three days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
