Chittagong Bureau :
A court in Chittagong convicted former Manager of Rupali Bank, Khatungonj Branch and two others for alleged misappropriation of about Tk.one crore from the bank .
The convicted accused are former Manager AKM Lutfur Rahman, an employee of Muslim & Brothers, Khatungon Md. Mahbubul Islam and former general secretary of LalkhanBazar Metropolitan Housing Society Ltd Zakir Hossain .
Former bank manager Lutfur Rahman and Zakir Hossain remained absconding. Special Judge of Chittagong Mir Ruhul Amin announced this verdict of convicting them with 5 years imprisonment each after .
Three accused in this case acquitted by court viz. Bank officers Abul Kalam, Abu Kaiser chowdhury and MA Hashem. Court sources said Bank Manager AKM Lutfur Rahman received Tk.1 cr 65 lakh from Bank as business loan using the name and fame of M/s.Rashel & Brothers of Khatungonj during July, 1992 and another importer of Khatungonj Muslim & Brothers was also involved with the preparations of forged bank documents for loan. In the meantime, Lutfur Rahman refunded Tk.75lakhs to the bank and the balance of Tk.90 lakh misappropriated .
