Court Correspondent :
Former Sonagazi OC Moazzem Hossain yesterday (Wednesday) filed a petition with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court seeking anticipatory bail in the case filed over recording and circulating a video statement of slain Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The petition was submitted to the concerned department of the apex court on Wednesday. A copy of the petition was sent to the Attorney General’s office. The vacation bench of the High Court may hear the petition after the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. However, Moazzem himself did not appear in the court on the occasion. Meanwhile, his colleagues did not confirm his whereabouts so far.
Much talked about Moazzem was not available at his workplace in Rangpur on Tuesday whereas he was seen there two days ago, a source says. He was withdrawn from Sonagazi Police Station of Feni on April 10. Later, on May 8, he was suspended and attached to Rangpur Range office, where he joined last week. It has been learnt that later, former OC Moazzem was summoned to the Police Headquarters of Dhaka.
On April 15, lower Barrister Syed Saidul Haque filed a case with Dhaka Cyber Tribunal against the former OC over recording and circulating a video statement of slain Nusrat and questing her in indecent language during recording the statement. Later, the court asked Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate into the matter and submit a report by April 30, while the police intelligence agency found authenticity of the complaint Under Sections 26, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act.
Later, the tribunal took cognizance of the case and issued warrant of arrest against Moazzem on May 27. The court also asked the police to arrest the suspended police officer.
