The younger son of former fisheries and livestock minister Narayan Chandra Chanda tried to kill himself by drinking toilet cleaner in Dumuria on Wednesday.
Abhit Chandra Chanda, 25, was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital around 11am, assistant registrar doctor Khaled Mahmud said.
He was later referred to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
It was not immediately clear why the young man tried to take his own life.
