A former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Chittagong University (CU) unit went on a token hunger strike on the campus demanding removal of two teachers from the university’s administrative posts. Md Iftekhar Uddin Ayaz, former executive member of BCL (CU unit), started the token hunger strike around 3:00pm at the university’s Bangabandhu Chattor to press home his demands.
The university authorities recently appointed Prof Rahman Nasir Uddin of Anthropology Department and Assistant Professor Hanif Miah of sociology department as the head of CU Social Science Research Centre and assistant proctor of the university respectively.
The duo sided with a CU teacher, Maidul Islam, who allegedly put up defamatory remarks on Facebook against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ayaz claimed. Maidul was later sued under the ICT act, he added. Ayaz vowed to continue his token hunger strike until his demands are met.
