Ex-leader of BCL Rana hacked to death in city

Miscreants hacked to death a former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the capital’s Ramna area this evening.
Mahbubur Rahman Rana, 32, was the former senior vice president of Ramna unit of BCL, student wing of ruling Awami League. Mahbubur was the son of late Mozibur Rahman Rana was living at Chairman Goli of Moghbazar for sometime.
Quoting witnesses, police said a gang of miscreants swooped on Rana at Masjid Goli near Moghbazar crossing around 6:30 pm.
The gangsters exploded two crude bombs to create panic and chopped Rana indiscriminately with sharp weapons. Later, they fled the scene, leaving him in a pool of blood. The former BCL leader was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead at about 8:05pm. Selim Mia, Inspector (Investigation) of Ramna Police Station told The New Nation that the motive of the killing was not clear. Deputy Commissioner (Ramna Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Maruf Sheikh said police recovered a machete and two unexploded crude bombs from the spot.
Shaidul Islam, President of Ramna Swechchhasebok League said that Mahbubur was an aspirant for the post of secretary of Ramna unit Awami Swechchhasebak League.
