UNB, Dhaka :Former leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Sunday demanded immediate release of its incumbent president Rajib Ahsan, saying he has been arrested as part of a government conspiracy. The former JCD leaders made the demand at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club. JCD founding convener Quazi Asaduzzaman read out a written statement at the programme.”JCD current president Rajib Ahsan was arrested in a heinous way. Partisan police after two hours of his arrest informed the media that they found drugs like Yaba in his possession only to malign a meritorious, clean and young leader,” Asad said.He alleged that Rajib was arrested also as part of the government’s evil design to create a vacuum of skilled and capable political leadership in the country.”We think Rajib was not arrested to subdue the opposition political force. Rather, he was shown arrested with Yaba as part of the move to create a negative impression about student politics and its leadership so that no student movement can be waged against this anti-people and unelected regime,” he said in the written speech.Denouncing the incident, the ex-JCD leaders also demanded action against the policemen involved in the arrest of the JCD president in such a manner. They alleged that the law enforcers in the name of raiding the house of JCD general secretary Akramul Hasan assaulted his family members. “We strongly protest it.”The ex-JCD leaders also demanded immediate release of all arrested current and former JCD leaders, including BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and party chairperson’s adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu.On July 19, law enforcers arrested Rajib and his five associates allegedly with 45 Yaba tablets and a bottle of hard liquor in a car at Lebukhali Ferryghat in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali. Ex-JCD leaders Fazlul Haq Milon, Nazimuddin Alam, Asadul Karim Shaheen, ABM Mosharraf Hossain, Shirin Sultana and Bazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed were, among others, present.
