Ex-GCC mayor Mannan gets bail in 2 cases

The High Court on Sunday granted ad interim bail to suspended Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser MA Mannan in two cases filed with Kaliakair and Tongi police stations, keeping no further bar to his release.
An HC bench comprising Justice Mohammad Farid Uddin and Justice Qamrul Kader passed the order.
Advocate Khandakar Mahabub Hossain stood for MA Mannan.
Mannan’s counsel Masud Rana said as he has secured bail in all the 17 cases now there is no bar to his release.
The case with Kaliakair Police Station was filed on September 05, 2014 while the case with Tongi Police Station was filed on December 31, 2014.
Mannan was shown arrested in the two cases on January 05,2015. Earlier on August 19, the government suspended BNP-backed Gazipur City Corporation Mayor MA Mannan as he was charged with criminal offences.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Ministry issued a circular in this regard. As the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Gazipur accepted a charge sheet against Mannan in a criminal case filed with Joydebpur Police Station, he was suspended as per the Local Government (City Corporation) Act-2009, said the circular signed by assistant secretary AKM Anisuzzaman.
On July 21, the HC granted bail for three months to Mannan in two cases filed with Joydebpur and Kaliakair police stations.
On February 11, detectives picked up MA Mannan from his Baridhara DOHS residence in the capital in connection with a petrol bomb attack on a bus in Gazipur on February 4. Six cases were filed against mayor Mannan with Joydebpur, Kaliakair and Sreepur police stations on various charges.
