Ex-DPI Ferdous passes away

Muhammed Ferdous Khan, former Director of Public Instruction (DPI), passed away here on Wednesday due to old-age complications. He was 96.
He is survived by 5 sons, 4 daughters and grand children, all of whom are highly educated, besides a host of relatives, friends and admirers.
Ferdous Khan, also a distinguished educationist and a former Additional Secretary, breathed his last at Ibn Sina Hospital on last Wednesday evening, said family sources.
He was buried at his family graveyard at Pathantooly in the Port City of Chittagong on Thursday noon.
Ferdous Khan served as the DPI from October 18, 1965 to March 14, 1972.
Ferdous was the eldest son of Amanat Khan, LLB, a former member of Bengal Legislative Assembly, the first Muslim Chairman of Chittagong Port Trust, the longest serving commissioner of Chittagong Municipality and a renowned zamindar of Chittagong who founded schools and charitable organisations.
He was a recipient of the prestigious ‘Ekushey Padak’ and Independence Day Award.
