The High Court (HC) on Wednesday refused to grant bail to suspended Deputy Inspector General of Prisons in Sylhet division, Partha Gopal Banik, in a case filed over recovery of Tk 8.0 million from his residence in the capital.
The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order after holding virtual hearing on the bail petition filed by Partha.
The court, however, suggested the party to place the bail application in a regular High Court bench when it will resume proceedings. Barrister Shafiq Ahmed, Barrister Mahbub Shafiq and Barrister Sanjid Siddiqee took part in the

hearing on behalf of Partha Gopal Banik, while advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier on October 6, 2020, another HC bench refused to grant him bail.
Judge of senior special judge’s court of Dhaka, KM Emrul Kayesh, on September 15, 2019, rejected the bail petition of Partha Gopal Banik in the case.
Then he moved to the High Court on September 30, 2019, challenging the trial court’s order rejecting his bail in the case.
On July 28, 2019, the Anti-Corruption Commission detained Partha after recovering Tk 8 million from his residence in Dhaka. The official allegedly obtained the money through corruption.
Assistant director of ACC Md Salahuddin filed a case under money laundering act against Partha Gopal Banik the following day.
