Ex-DC of Satkhira, ex-UNO of Ashashuni face jail term

A court here on Tuesday sentenced three people, including the former deputy commissioner of the district and exe-UNO of Ashashuni upazila, to three months’ jail for defying a court order.
Senior Assistant Judge Sabrina Chowdhury passed the order against Abul Kashem Mohammad Mohiuddin, former deputy commissioner of the district, Sushama Sultana, former UNO of Ashashuni upazila and Kamal Hossain, assistant land officer of Ashashuni Sadar.
The court asked them to surrender before the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court within one month and it said warrants will be issued for their arrest if they fail to comply with its order.
According to the prosecution, the court on July 26, 2017 issued a prohibitory order on one acre and 68 decimals of land following a petition by Nani Bala Haldar.
But defying the court order, Abul Kashem in collusion with Sushana Sultana helped the accused to go into the disputed land. Abul Kashem, now the joint secretary of Commerce Ministry, was the deputy commissioner of Satkhira from July 26, 2016 to March 6, 2018 while Sushama Sultana was the UNO of Ashashuni upazila. She is now the additional deputy commissioner of Narsingdi district.
