The maiden journey of a new department named ‘Department of Sociology’ started with an inaugural ceremony at East West University (EWU) on Saturday at EWU Aftabnagar Campus in the capital. Md. Sohorab Hossain, Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Education Ministry presented the ceremony as the chief guest. The program presided over by Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees of EWU and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank.
The program attended by Prof MM Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor of EWU, Prof Fahima Khatun, Ex-Director General, Secondary and Higher Education, Bangladesh, Dr Dibalok Singha, Member Secretary, Dushtha Shasthya Kendra, Dhaka, Dr Fouzia Mannan, Dean, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of EWU and Dr Anisur Rahman Khan, Chairperson of Department of Sociology. In their speech, distinguished guests said that Sociology is the top most basic subject of our civil society and it also a very demandable subject in the world in every era. They expected that this department would be one of the top departments of EWU very soon.
Apart from that, a cultural program was also performed on the occasion. A large number of audiences with prominent teachers of different college and institution from Dhaka were also present on the occasion.
