After around 36 years, Bangladesh Railway (BR) authorities have started eviction of drive of illegal structures on Railway land at the both sides of rail tracks from Khulna to Phulbarigate area in the city from Monday.
The eviction drive was started from near Govt. B.L. College Rail Stations Gate.
BR sources said, In spite of giving notice to the illegal land grabbers, they did not demolish illegal structures keeping vacant 25 feet lands and as such the BR authorities demolished the illegal structures.
The eviction drive was conducted by Divisional Estate Officer of BR, Pakshi Md. Yunus Ali, Executive Magistrate Md. Arafat Ul Alam and Md. Zakir Hossain.
More than 200 persons including members of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), GRP Police and Railway Security Department and officials of BR participated in the eviction drive.
BR sources further said, the persons who did not remove their illegal structures, BR authorities demolished those illegal structures. On the other hand, the persons who has already removed their excessive structures, the BR Estate officer thanked them.
On the spot visit this Correspondent found that most of the structure owners were demolishing their excessive parts from Daulatpur Govt. B.L. College Rail station at both sides of the Rail tracks.
During the eviction drive on Tuesday an Influential trader named Md. Ismail Sheikh, resident of Deana area under Daulatpur police station in the city along with his relatives and other associates obstructed to demolish his illegal structure at Daulatpur Bazar upon the land of BR. As such an altercation created on the spot.
However, this is nothing but obstruction to continue the works of the government which is punishable criminal offence under the purview of law existing in the country, said a lawyer.
The common and conscious people welcomed the eviction drive launched by the authorities of Bangladesh Railway as most of the persons have grabbed Railway lands and built structures upon the lands of BR illegally since long.
It is mentionable in this connection that few days ago The New Nation published a report at National page in respect of building of illegal structures on rail tracks in Khulna city.
