Eviction of illegal occupied railway land starts

Railway authorities have launched an eviction drive to free illegal occupants from railway land in Gafargaon. Nearly half a hundred different establishments including shops, pucca, semi-pucca dwellings illegally occupied in the railway property have been demolished.
The rescue operation started from 10 am on Wednesday at the Chamragudam rail crossing area and reached Shibganj rail gate area.
Police and RNB cooperated with the railway police in the eviction operation.
The expedition was led by Railway Dhaka Divisional Property Officer Md. Shafiullah and Assistant Commissioner (land) Kaberi Roy.
Railway officials said that a notice has been issued to vacate the place for a long time. But no one cared. The occupiers have been constructing illegal structures on a 2 acre land for a long time. The authorities started the eviction drive after being forced to do so.
More than 2 acres of railway land was recovered during the operation.
Railway Dhaka Divisional Property Officer Md. Shafiullah said that Railways took special initiative on the occasion of Mujib Year. For the safety of passengers, no one will be able to enter the railway station without a ticket. We have given notice to the owners of
illegal installations. Those who did not remove their installations have been evicted.
