Eviction of illegal hill dwellers begin from June 11

Divisional Hill Management Committee (DHMC) yesterday issued warnings to the residents of 11 risky hills including Moti Jhorna and Lalkhan Bazar hill areas about possible landslides in Chittagong hill areas.
The authority will start eviction activities of the residents of 11 risky hills from June 9 next. The DHMC has taken decision at a meeting held at divisional commissioner office auditorium at 11 am yesterday. Divisional Commissioner Chittagong Mohammad Abdullah asked the residents of the unauthorized listed 666 family families to relocate their habitation to safer places. “Living on the top of these hills is very risky and torrential rains may even claim their lives “, he added. The district administration since Sunday morning asked the residents in risky hilly areas to move to safer places.
Divisional commissioner Mohammad Abdullah presided over the meeting while additional divisional commissioner (revenue) Khalilur Rahman, deputy commissioner Mezbah Uddin, additional deputy commissioner (revenue) and member secretary of DHMC Ilias Hossain, director of Environment directorate Azadur Rahman Mollick, chief conservator of Chittagong region Abdul Latif Mia, Executive Engineer of National Housing Authority Shamsul Alam among others representatives of stake holders including Railway, CWASA, CDA were participated the discussion.
