Eviction drive in Bhairab River starts

Jashore District Administration and Water Development Board, in a joint drive, demolished about 100 establishments as part of eviction drive from the River Bhairab on Thursday.
This is the first ever large scale eviction in Jashore.
Probir Kumar Goswami, executive engineer, water development board, Jashore told that a total of 84 illegal establishments are being evicted from the River Bhairab preliminary.
Visiting the spot, it was seen that establishments including three -story buildings were being demolished. The buildings include mini Chinese restaurants, Bangla restaurants, book shops, readymade garment outlets, tea stalls, furniture shop, fruit shops and some other types of business outlets.
Mohshin Sarker, general secretary, Bangladesh Book Publisher and Sellers Association, Jashore district unit told that all the 36 book shops at the largest book market in Jashore were demolished. ‘We have lost several crores of Taka,’ he added.
