The private universities in Bangladesh emerged to meet the demand of time. These universities are contributing in building an educated and enlightened nation. Obviously it is not good if the students leave the country for higher education abroad.
About five to six lakh students admit in private universities every year. The market based modern subjects attract them to study in these universities. They don’t have waste time to become graduates as there is no session jam in private universities.
The overall quality of private universities is increasing day by day. There are many private universities in the country where the students get world standard education.
The private universities are now targeting the talent students for appointing as teachers. As the teachers are the key role players to provide the quality education, it is not far that the thousands of foreign students will come to Bangladesh for higher education.
To develop the higher education in private universities, the government should provide some supports to ensure that. The government can provide support to train the teachers, to establish library and laboratory and to ensure bank loan. Government should provide facilities to the private university teachers to get the scholarship to go abroad for higher education like the public university teachers. It is high time to declare the private university sector as “Push Sector.”
Now, we can tell something about European University of Bangladesh (EUB). It is a government approved private university sponsored and founded by a trust which is a registered, non-political, non-profit organization. The members of the Trust felt the need for a private university to bring quality education within the reach of students with modest economic means.
Vision of EUB is to take part in the collective efforts to improve lives of the people in the country by offering opportunities to obtain knowledge and skills essential for better living in the new century.
Mission of EUB is to offer such programs to study and education related functions which is directly linked to socio-economic empowerment of the people of the country. It also conducts educational, research and developmental programs of high quality at affordable fees.
EUB is an independent private university having power and authority to provide proper education and to confer degrees and certificates in all branches of knowledge including business administration, civil engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, textile engineering, humanities, social sciences, law, and any other discipline that may arise. The levels of education include Undergraduate (Bachelors) and Postgraduate (Masters), and Ph.D (when approved).

EUB is blessed with unique resources available through its location in a well communicated area of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. The registered office of EUB is at 23/6, Block- B, Mirpur Road, Shyamoli, Mirpur Road, Dhaka.
Besides registered office, EUB has another campus in Dhaka at Janata Housing, Plot # 211-212, Mirpur # 02, Dhaka- 1216.
Having fulfilled with the requirements as laid down in the Private University Act of 2010 and after obtaining the necessary approval from University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), and the permission of Government of Bangladesh (GoB) through the Ministry of Education, EUB started functioning on and from May 2, 2012. The charter of EUB as famed within the provisions of the Act, the Government empowers the university to confer degrees in various disciplines.
