The European Union (EU) will fund training centres in Bangladesh for workers who want to go abroad, the expatriates’ welfare and overseas welfare minister says.
Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said there were currently 70 training centres in Bangladesh.
“We want to set up training centres in every Upazila. The EU ambassador has promised to fund them,” he told reporters Sunday after meeting EU Ambassador in Dhaka Pierre Mayaudon.
Hossain said the government did not support illegal migration but believed in legal manpower exports.
“There are about nine million Bangladeshi workers in 160 countries,” the minister added.
