EU team to meet CJ, CEC, pol leaders

European Union (EU) is sending a two-member expert team to analyse the upcoming national to be held on Dec 30.
The team will arrive on next Tuesday and will have a meeting Chief Election (CEC) Commissioner AKM Nurul Huda the next day, said an official.
They will also meet Chief Justice (CJ) Syed Mahmud Hossain, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed

Patwary, foreign ministry officials in addition to top local politicians, he added.
The European Union is not going to send any observer, rather its embassy in Dhaka is likely to monitor the election and report back to Brussels, the headquarters of the EU.
“The visit is important as their report to the EU will somehow influence the future relations with Bangladesh,” the official said.
The team has no intention to interfere in the national election and committed not to speak in public, he added.
They will stay here till the first week of January.
Meanwhile, different international organizations showed their interest to send observers and some Dhaka-based embassies also contacted with relevant authorities to act as observers.
Recently the Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali briefed the Dhaka-based diplomats about how foreign observers can take part in the process.
So far, Commonwealth, SAARC, and some Western countries showed their interest to send the observers.
The Guidelines for Election Observation stipulated that the foreign observers can apply to the commission through email or fax. Dhaka-based diplomats can submit their application through email, fax or physically.
The observers will be granted tourist visa and can stay in Bangladesh for three to eight weeks depending on the nature of their observations.
A total of 593 foreign observers took part in 2008 while it number was very minimal in 2014.
