A group of ethnic people on Friday demanded five percent quota for them in all the government jobs.
They said this at a human chain under the banner of “Bangladesher Khudro Nrigosthir Jonogon” organised in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Friday.
In case of the quota in higher education, the government should also keep five percent quota to enrollment in the public and private universities for them, Ajay Prokash, Convener of the group, said.
“We want five percent quota allocation in the jobs recruiting system at private organizations, including banks and insurance companies,” he said.
The new committee that will be formed based on the PM’s recent declaration should have representatives from the indigenous people, he demanded.
Welcoming the Prime Minister’s decision to scrap the quota system, they urged her to protect the given assurance while planning for the next course of action.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in face of country-wide demonstrations staged by the general students on April 11 decided to scrap the quota system in government job recruitment.
The PM, however, said a different arrangement will be made so that members of ethnic minorities and physically-challenged people can get government jobs.
