‘Establishing planned family to build hunger free country’

Speakers in a function here on Friday stressed the need for establishing planned family in every sections of the society to build poverty and hunger free country.
“In this context, importance should be given on reducing rate of unwanted pregnancy and fertility through expediting the field level activities by the employees concerned of government and non-government organisation (NGO) at a greater extent,” they said.
They made the comments while addressing a discussion meeting on observing the World Population Day-2014 jointly organised by Department of Family Planning and Friendship, a leading NGO of the country, at the auditorium of Zila Parishad of the town here at noon.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the meeting as the chief guest and administrator of Zila Parishad Advocate Syed Shams-ul-Alam and civil surgeon Dr Ahad Ali were present as special guests.
With Deputy Director of Department of Family Planning Dr Ferdous Hossain Manzu in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Acting Upazila Parishad Chairman Rashida Begum and President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), district unit, Dr Shahiduzzaman Harun.
Terming the population as one of the main burning problems of the country, the speakers said all sorts of nationwide development activities are being hampered seriously due to unabated population growth.
They also emphasised on collective efforts of all government and non-government organisations to control the population growth anyhow for helping advance towards development of the nation.
The chief guest in her speeches urged the field level staff of government and non-government organisation to increase the birth method users’ rate for reducing the total fertility rate through providing permanent birth controlling method to all able couples particularly the rural and char ones.
Later, certificates were given to the employees and family welfare centers of the department for their good performance on family planning activities.
Earlier, a big colorful rally was brought out and ended at the campus of Zila Parishad after parading the main roads of the town.
