The former Member of Parliament and JP Chief HM Ershad’s nephew, Husain Makbul Asif Shahariar declared to contest in Mayoral race of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) poll violating the party chief decision. He made the declaration in a press conference on Wednesday noon at his Shenpara residence of the city. He said, the party chief HM Ershad has no control over the party. So, I preferred to contest for the mayoral posts in the ensuing city poll. He also vowed to contest the poll even if he did not have party ticket.
Ershad declared the name and introduced JP Rangpur City unit President, Mostafizur Rhaman Mustafa as the Mayoral candidate of the ensuing RCC poll in a public meeting of the city few months back. An anger and tense situation was created among the family members of Ershad soon after the declaration of Mustafa’s name for the city poll.
Asif also made complain against the state minister for rural and cooperative ministry, Masiur Rhaman Ranga in the press conference. He was a very shrewd and the most beneficiaries of the party He said, when the party chief Ershad remained captive at CMH in 2014 regarding election, we brought movement and procession demanding release of the party chief in the district. Masiur Rhaman Ranga instigated the police and the law enforcing members charged baton and fired rubber-bullets and tear-shell on the procession. Later cases were also filed against many party men.
Both Ranga and Mostafa destroyed the party image in the district, they are the most opportunists and enemy of the party, he claimed. He also said, he decided to contest the RCC mayoral posts considering the interest of the party.
When asked JP City unit president Mostafizur Rhaman Mostofa said, he will accept the party chief HM Ershad’s decision in this regard.
