Jatiya Party [JP], a major ally of the ruling Awami League and also the Opposition in Parliament, is taking preparation to quit the government.
JP Chairman HM Ershad, the Special Adviser to the Prime Minister, revealed this on Sunday while talking to the journalists at Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria, adding that the final decision would be taken in the party forum within very short time.
Expressing his optimism he said, “We want to serve as the real opposition party in the parliament in the future. Our goal is to go to state power individually. The JP will form government in the future.”
Party insiders said Ershad has changed his track apparently getting support from his wife Roushan Ershad, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
In this backdrop, Ershad had directed his party leaders to quit from the Cabinet at the party’s Parliamentary committee meeting held at Sangsad Bhaban on August 31. Media reports said that Chief of the JP Parliamentary Party Roushan Ershad had also approved the direction at that time.
Meanwhile, the AL leaders have reacted sharply
over the Ershad’s latest announcement. Obaidul Quader, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, said on Sunday at his Secretariat office, “As per procedures, if anyone wants to speak anything against the government, the issue must be raised in the forum of the alliance.”
The Minister however said if any party or individual wants to quit the alliance, it is completely his or her own matter.
