UNB, Dhaka :Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Wednesday called upon the government to register its protest on the streets against Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip.”The Prime Minister earlier protested the genocide in written, but now I request her to come out onthe streets. We want the government to take to the streets like us against the mass killing of innocent Palestinians,” he said.Ershad, also a special envoy to the Prime Minister, made the call while addressing a human chain programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club arranged by his party protesting the killings of Palestinians in Gaza.Over 1800 Palestine people, including many children and women, in the Gaza Strip were killed in Israeli offensive in the last 26 days. The human chain that snaked out from the Jatiya Press Club to Motijheel Shapla Chhatra led to huge traffic in and around the city’s main commercial area, causing sufferings to commuters.Ershad addressed the programme first in front of the Jatiya Press Club and later at the Shapla Chattar standing on a truck.Joining the programme, in front of the Press Club, the Jatiya Party chief said, “Israel is the stigma of the world. Down with Israel and it be demolished.”Referring to the killing of innocent civilians, children and women in Palestine, the ex-military ruler also said, “Now we can understand why Hitler had killed the Jewish.”He came down hard on the Islamic parties in the country for what he said not registering any visible protest against the Israeli offensive in Gaza.Pointing at BNP and Jamaat, he said, “Where’re they who claim themselves as believers in Islamic values. We don’t see them to protest the genocide in Palestine.”Claiming his party as a pro-Islamic party, Ershad said he, during his rule, had announced Friday as the weekly public holiday. “We recognised Islam as the state religion. We bear the spirit of Islam.”Later, speaking at Shapla Chhattar, the Jatiya Party chairman said his party has taken to the streets and will be there until returning to power.
