EP team meets Khaleda

The visiting delegation of European Parliament’ s International Trade Affairs (INTA) Committee met BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday night.
The six-member EP team, led by Chair of the INTA Committee, Bernd Lange, met the BNP chairperson at her Gulshan office at 6 pm.
Briefing reporters about the meeting, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the European Parliament’s INTA Committee told Khaleda that they want democracy, the rule of law and human rights to be protected in Bangladesh.
He said the delegation members said they also want to see the Election Commission to be reconstituted with competent and neutral persons.
Fakhrul said they discussed the country’s political situation and bilateral issues relating to trade and commerce with the EP team.
He said the delegation said they believe democratic practice and human rights will be ensured in the countries with those the EP has trade relations.
The BNP leader said the EP team also said they hope a fair and inclusive election will be held in the country.
Apart from Fakhrul, BNP standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamiruddin Sircar, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, chairpersons’ adviser Reaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed were present.
