Speakers at a seminar at Hotel Westin Dhaka in the capital on Tuesday said they would like to increase security measures. United States-based world famous payment and identity security company Entrust DataCard and their local representative Leeds Corporation Limited jointly organized this seminar. Lila Rashid, general manager of Bangladesh Bank’s Payment System Division spoke on the occasion.
Speakers said, ‘Omni-channel’ or multipurpose transaction system has become very popular in Bangladesh, keeping pace with the world.
The country’s banking system and the government are also taking advantage of this. Banks are regularly promoting the business by introducing various types of cards through their digital payment system. The government utility bills are part of the automated system.
Bangladesh Bank General Manager Lila Rashid said there are currently four types of payment systems in Bangladesh-cash payment, paper-based payment, card-based payment and electronic payment. After the manual, semi-automated payment experience, we have now entered the fully automated transaction system.
Bangladesh Bank now completes transactions with three types of automated platform. Bangladesh Automated Clearing House (BACH), National Payment Switch Bangladesh (NPSEB) and Bangladesh Realtime Gross Settlement System (BD-RTGS).
In addition, Mobile Financial Services is operating now. He said that currently there are 53 banks operate cards business. And 12 banks offer internet banking services. In addition, there are 61 billion mobile banking accounts and 8 lakh agents. Every day 6 million transactions are done through this.
