Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah, MP stressed the need for ensuring education among the children with disabilities to make themselves worthy citizens of the country.
“As the children with disabilities are the integral part of the society, they deserve to enjoy all fundamental rights of the state like other privileged sections in the society to enable them leading a decent life”, he said.
Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah made the comments on Wednesday while addressing a Janater Sanglap (Dialogue of people) on the premises of Udayan Shwabolambee Sangstha (USS) in Putimari area under Shaghata upazila as the chief guest.
USS and Gana Shwakkhara Abhijan (GSA) jointly arranged the function with the financial support of Department for International Development (DFID) Bangladesh and UKAID while Shahadat Hossain Mondal, Executive Director of USS, presided over the ceremony.
Upazila parishad chairman AHM Golam Shahid Ranju, Prof of Dhaka University Nazmul Haque, deputy programme manager of GSA Rehana Begum, upazila social services officer Abu Sufian, and officer in charge of Shaghata thana Mostafizur Rahman addressed the function, among others while representative of Channel-i Mostafa Mollick was the moderator.
The persons with disabilities are assets of the society not burden and they can make a huge contribution to the society by flourishing their latent talents if they are given special care, the deputy speaker said.
He also urged all not to see the persons with disabilities in the eyes of negligence, rather they would have to be provided more sympathy and given more love in the greater interest of these people.
A large number of people including upazila level officials, social workers,
NGO activists, freedom fighters and journalists took part in the function.
