At the outset of the speech, the President paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifice in the 1971 Liberation War, language movement heroes and other martyrs of different democratic movements in different times.
Referring to the expansion of higher education countrywide, he said the prime object of the higher education is to flourish humanity, build skilled manpower and ensure the welfare of the country and its people.
The President said, “The population of the country is on the rise while the agricultural land is decreasing gradually and we have to think about how we can do progress adjusting these two issues.”
Considering the above mentioned issue as a burning problem, he suggested the authorities concerned of all agricultural universities take pragmatic steps in running the academic activities of the universities.
President Hamid, who introduced himself as a son of a farmer and a father of an agriculturist, thanked the BSMRAU authority for maintaining quality education system and research activities amid introducing North American-based academic curriculum here.
The existing education system of the agriculture university, a centre of excellence, and the progress of its overall research activities in the meantime gained appreciation from both home and abroad.
He urged the university teachers to play a pioneering role to make time-befitting the education system and emphasized the plan-wise development works in agriculture including crops, livestock, fisheries and forest.

Recalling the contribution of Bangabandhu in agriculture sector, the President said Bangabandhu upgraded the jobs of agriculture graduates in the government services to Class-I status in 1973 as he understood that no sustainable growth of a country was possible keeping the agriculture out of the development process.
He said the Father of the Nation, in his whole life, cherished a dream to establish a non-communal, hunger-free and poverty-free Sonar Bangla.
Welcoming the graduates on this very auspicious day, President Hamid asked the students to recall the contribution of parents, and teachers with due respect to reach them (students) to this position.
