Confce of PWD held: Engrs should work perfectly: Minister

Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain asked the engineers to work honestly to supervise contractors to complete all projects within the stipulated time by maintaining its standard.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the two-day long annual conference to review the progress of development projects under the Public Works Directorate in the conference room of PWD.
The engineers also discussed about the problems and the way to overcome those, in the two days
programme ended by 5:00pm on Thursday.
Housing and Public Works Minister blamed Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority for polluting the water bodies in the city by releasing sewage and waste into them.
 “Dhaka WASA had failed to manage and treat sewage though it was their prime task,” he said.
The minister stressed importance on proper maintenance of infrastructure constructed by the PWD, saying that even an iconic building could lose its beauty and stability if the maintenance works were not done timely.
 “Engineers should be sincere to ensure proper use of taka 450 crore allocated for maintenance,” the minister said.
PWD is implementing 227 building construction projects of 30 ministries in the current fiscal at a cost of Tk 4,837.03 crore.
PWD Chief Engineer Mohammad Rafiqul Islam presided over the programme. Housing and Public Works Secretary Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker and Directorate of Architecture Chief Engineer Kazi Golam Nasir spoke at the programme.
