Soumya, Mahmudullah hit tons: BD lose to NZ by innings and 52 runs

Despite two centuries from Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah Riyad Bangladesh lost to New Zealand by an innings and 52 runs in the first Test match on the fourth day at Hamilton in New Zealand on Sunday.
Soumya Sarkar notched up a splendid 149. His 171-ball innings was laced with 21 fours and five sixes. It was Soumya’s maiden Test century. Soumya reached his 100-run landmark using 94 balls with 12 fours and five sixes.
Mahmudullah knocked a painstaking 146. His 229-ball innings was studded with 21 fours and three sixes. It was Royad’s fourth Test century. Riyad fulfilled his hundred-run landmark playing 183 balls with 16 fours and a sixer.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh scored 234 in the first innings on the first day (Thursday).
In reply, New Zealand declared their first innings making a mountainous 715 for the loss of six wickets on the third day (Saturday).
Later, Bangladesh made 429 in the second innings on the fourth day (Sunday).
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the overnight score of 174 for the loss of four wickets.
Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah Riyad resumed their second innings with the overnight score of 39 and 15 runs respectively.
Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together more 187 runs for the fifth wicket partnership on the fourth day before Soumya was bowled out by Trent Boult when Bangladesh’s score was 361 for the loss of five wickets.
After departure of Soumya Sarkar, Bangladesh batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
Riyad was caught at the deep point by Trent Boult off Tim Southee when the team’s total was 429 for the loss of nine wickets.
Trent Boult bowled really well and completed his superb spell as 28-3-123-5.
Tim Southee grabbed three wickets instead of 98 runs, while Neil Wagner bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 104 runs.
Kane Williamson remained unbeaten with 200 runs in the first innings. Williamson was adjudged the Man of the Match.
