BSS, Dhaka :
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday asked officials and engineers to work with sincerity and honesty to improve the quality of road and bridge construction for better transport system in the country.
“We are suffering from low- standard construction of highways, roads and bridges, which is contributing to deterioration of service quality in the transport sector,” he told a workshop on “Performance contracting and key performance Indicator” at the Road Transport and Highways Division here. Road Transport and Highways Division in cooperation with a2i Programme of Prime Minister’s Office organized the workshop. Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division MAN Siddique and senior officials of the ministry and a2i programme addressed the workshop. The country witnessed a good progress in the communication sector in the past couple of years due to implementation of a number of road, highway and bridge projects, Quader said.
“We are also working to implement some mega projects including metro rail, elevated railway, Padma Bridge to ensure better communication system in the country,” he said adding all officials and employees have to work with dedication to complete these projects within schedule. The biggest challenge is to ensure transparency, accountability and to establish good governance in the transport sector to bring a qualitative change in the communication services, the minister added. “Vehicles of some influential people are seen moving on wrong track neglecting traffic rules. In contrast, commoners are following traffic rules,” Quader said, adding that all should follow traffic rules to help ease traffic jam and avoid road accident.
