English spelling of five dists changed

The government on Monday changed the English spelling of five districts to make them sound similar to the Bangla alphabet.
The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) on Monday approved a proposal at the Prime Minister’s Office to change English spellings of the names of five districts resembling them to Bangla phonetics.
From now on, Chittagong would be called as Chattogram, Barisal would be Barishal, Comilla would Cumilla, Jessore would be Jashore and Bogra would be Bogura.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting at her office, said NM Ziaul Alam, Secretary of Co-Ordination and Reforms at the Cabinet Division.
