England clinched series win over India by beating them by 60 runs and ensures the series win with 3-1 lead and still a game to go for the end of Test series.
England came in to the match after a huge defeat in Trent Bridge even though they were leading the series 2-1. Joe Root won the important toss and elected to bat first.
Indian pacers had a pure dominance over English top order batsmen in first innings. Then they had a strong partnership between their all-rounders Moeen Ali and Sam Curran. Both of them scored 40 and 78 respectively. England managed to put 246 on board.
On the bowling side Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets. Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets each.
In reply India scored 273 runs in their 1st innings. Cheteshwar Pujara scored an awesome century which guided India to take a 27 runs lead after a severe lower middle order collapse of Indian batsmen. Indian Skipper scored 46 runs and had a strong partnership with Pujara.
In the hosts side Moeen Ali took a five wicket haul like he did in 2014 against same opponent in same venue. And Stuart Broad took three wickets to his name.
England started their second innings trailing by 27 runs. Once again Indian bowlers had pure dominance over English top order batsmen. English top five found it much hard to score except Joe Root who scored 48 runs.
In the lower middle order Jos Buttler and Sam Curran guided the hosts to a respectable position. The wicket keeper batsman had scored 69 runs and the left arm seam bowling all-rounder had scored 49 runs.
At last the hosts managed to put 271 runs in score board for their second innings. And that score set a target of 245 runs for India to win the match. Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami took four wickets in second innings.
In their chase India lost the wickets of their top three batsman very cheaply to new ball. Then the Indian captain and vice captain had a century partnership which put India well on track for the chase.
All of a sudden Moeen Ali trapped Virat Kohli for 58 runs and that put England back into the game. Again Indian lower order batsmen failed to with stand and made the chase harder for India.
On the other side Rahane scored a fighting 51 runs. At last India were bowled out for 184 runs and England won the game by 60 runs. With this win England clinched the series 3-1 with one game to go.
