England were all out for 211 off 49.5 overs in their innings against Pakistan in the first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy at Cardiff on Wednesday.
England had a shaky start as opener Alex Hales (13) caught at the cover by Babar Azam off debutante Rumman Raees when England’s score was 34.
Later, opener Jonny Bairstow and one-down Joe Root put on together 46 runs in the second wicket stand before Bairstow was caught at the deep square leg by Mohammad Hafeez off Hasan Ali when England’s total was 80 for the loss of two wickets.
Bairstow hit a polished 43. His 57-ball innings was belted with four fours.
After dismissal of Bairstow, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan added together 48 runs for the third wicket partnership before Joe Root was caught behind by Sarfraz Ahmed off Shadab Khan when England’s score was 128 for the loss of three wickets.
Joe Root was the highest scorer of his team. He hit a fine 46 from 56 balls.
After departure of Joe Root, England batsmen failed to build any notable partnership.
Eoin Morgan knocked 33 from 53 balls with four fours before he was caught behind by Sarfraz Ahmed off Hasan Ali when England’s total was 141 for the loss of four wickets.
Ben Stokes was the other remarkable run-getter for England. He scored 34 off 64 balls.
He was caught at the mid-off by Mohammad Hafeez off Hasan Ali when England’s score was 201 for the loss of eight wickets.
Earlier, Junaid Khan dismissed Jos Buttler for four runs and removed Moeen Ali for 11 runs.
Adil Rashid (7) was run out by Sarfraz Ahmed and Liam Plunkett was dismissed by Rumman Raees.
When Mark Wood (3) was run out by Sarfraz Ahmed, England’s innings came to an end.
Hasan Ali grabbed three wickets at the cost of 35 runs, while Junaid Khan and Rumman Raees bagged a pair of wickets each instead of 42 and 44 runs respectively.
