Emphasis on investment-friendly tax structure in next budget: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Tuesday said emphasis will be given on an industry -and investment-friendly tax structure in the upcoming budget to encourage local industrial production.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters after a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) at his office.
Amu said effective steps will be taken after discussions with the stakeholders concerned to resolve various problems of the entrepreneurs.
He also said the government will provide its all-out cooperation to help flourish the local industry in a bid to build an industry-based economy.
The minister asked the entrepreneurs to come up with a specific proposal to resolve their problems.
Expressing their satisfaction over the country’s economic situation, the BCI leaders said the country’s forex reserve now stands at US$ 19 billion while Tk 82,000 crore liquidity deposited to the banks.
They also demanded gas and power supplies to new factories on a priority basis. At the same time, they demanded reducing interest rate on government bond, reduction of tax on imported raw materials, increasing duty on importing finished products and increasing the use of jute products.
