Shikhar Dhawan has spoken out after it was announced that he has been ruled out of India’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2019 campaign with a broken thumb.
Dhawan, the India opener, copped the blow during India’s victory over Australia. India sweated on his fitness for a time, but he has since been ruled out of contention.
The tributes soon started pouring in from team-mates, former India stars and pundits alike.
The opener then took to social media to express his thanks for the wishes of India’s fans.
“I just wanted to make a video to show gratitude towards your prayers and love which you all have been showering at me,” he said. “Unfortunately my thumb won’t be recovering on time. I really wanted to play the World Cup and represent my country.
“Now it’s time for me to go back and recover well and be ready for the next section. I’m sure the boys are going to do really great and win the World Cup. Keep praying for us, keep supporting us, your support and prayers are very dear to us. Thank you again for all your support and love. Love you all. Take care.”
