Emirates operates world’s largest fleet of aircraft

United Arab Emirates (UAE) Dubai-based airline, Emirates, flies millions of people around the world including Bangladesh. It connects people and places around the globe inspiring travel and facilitating trade in over 145 destinations in 81 countries including Bangladesh. On board its award-winning comfort and service, delivered by friendly cabin crew representing over 130 nationalities including Bangladeshis, Emirates today operates the world’s largest fleet of aircraft including those of iconic A380 and popular Boeing 777s.
Although as an airliner Emirates was launched in 1985, it started air services to and from Dhaka with two weekly flights from the 27th of October 1986-one year after launching. Its flight frequency increased to double daily from March 25, 2007 in about 10 and a half years later. The airline has increased its flight frequencies to triple daily or 21 per week from the 2nd of April, 2013-in about six years.
Although Emirates does not have its own lounge it offers shared lounge facilities to Business Class passengers at Balaka lounge located on the second floor of Terminal-2 of Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The lounge provides opportunity to premium passengers for relaxing in comfort before the journey.
Emirates in-flight ice (entertainment, communication and information) system with over 1,600 channels, includes a couple of Bangladeshi movies in Bangla language with English sub-title.
Although Emirates does not uplift any food from Bangladesh, it serves specially prepared menus designed with the palates, tradition and culture of Bangladeshi travelers in mind in its Dhaka-Dubai sector flights.
Emirates frequent flier program ‘Skywards’ is quite known and popular among the Bangladeshi travelers. There are four tiers of membership: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Blue. About 45,000 travelers are enrolled as Skywards members in Bangladesh.
Emirates maintains offices in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet. Additionally Emirates has an airport office at the second floor of Terminal-1 of Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport.
Unlike many other international airlines Emirates has a PR (public relations) consultant (the Editor of a travel trade tabloid) in Dhaka directly appointed from Dubai, the headquarters of Emirates.
