Elisabeth Moss returns as June Osborne in Season 5 of Hulu series, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ She is a woman who resists the oppressive Gilead government.
The series has gained popularity for tackling timely issues of sexual and reproductive rights and women’s rights and garnering acclaim for the depth of its characters. The dystopian story is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood.
Moss, as lead actress and executive producer, said that ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ seeks to follow the emotional truths of its characters said there is.
“We try to follow their hearts, we try to talk honestly about them, and somehow it always puts us in the right place. I think it’s good. It’s important to talk about these things, to have opinions,” Moss said.
She explained that people should register, go out and vote. Although the show was intended as a cautionary tale, she found it relevant to contemporary events. Similarly, Bradley Whitford, who plays Commander Joseph Lawrence, told Reuters his character’s way of challenging this season’s dystopian world is “working within the system and unfortunately for me.” It’s about reforming it in a world where we’re all involved in this.” Fascism seems to be on the rise.
He added that Lawrence is working to redeem himself with his fifth installation and make changes to Gilead, but it won’t be easy. “I think June’s position on this is: It’s still Gilead. They clash over it. He’s taking action this year like never before.” said Whitford. Season 5 premiered on Hulu on September 14.
