Staff Reporter :
Police have reported recovery of three bags of electronic devices from a canal in the city’s Uttara area, where from huge cache of firearms were recovered six days ago.
The bags were found around 10:00am about half a kilometre away from the previous spot at Sector-16, said Mahbube Khoda, Officer-in-Charge of Turag Police Station.
An official of Fire Service said that they conducted a search on Saturday morning after getting a request from the police.
Our divers found the bags around 11:40am,” said Fire Service Control Room Duty Officer Mizanur Rahman.
He said that the bags contained ‘electronic devices’, but he could not give details.
On June 18, seven bags full of arms and ammunition were found in the shallow water of the Diabari canal in Uttara.
The haul included 97 pistols, 462 magazines, 1,060 bullets, 10 bayonets, and 104 dices for making bullets. A box containing 32 magazines of firearms were found in the canal the next day.
Police said that the ‘unmarked’ firearms were brand new and unused.
No arrests have so far been made over the haul, but the Dhaka Metropolitan Police told the media recently that the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance might have their hand behind it.
The BNP, however, blamed the government and said that it was part of an evil mega plan.
