Bangladesh has witnessed deterioration in electoral competition and state of governance in recent years.
“Such deterioration has been manifested in declining of voters’ turnout in the city corporation elections and growing electoral violence,” said a study report on Tuesday.
The report titled ‘State of Governance, Bangladesh 2016’ by BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, also shows that half of the complaints of corruption in the public sector are discontinued.
The pending cases of inquiries about corruption allegations across the divisions are high, said the report.
It also found an increase in gender gap in the final
voter list prepared before the 10th national elections in 2014 as well.
“Female participation was low in the last national and recent local government elections,” read the report.
Shedding light on the public sector governance, the study found that the executive magistrates on average have exceeded the targeted number of mobile courts.
